The fact is that home burglary is basically a piece of cake anyhow. Why? Because homeowners make it so easy to do-just a fact!

A burglary happens every 15 seconds. The value of goods taken for the year 2004 was estimated to be $34.3 BILLION.

Almost 33% of burglaries occur by unlawful entry thru an unlocked door or window-the bad guys just walk in. Burglars are almost always unarmed and work by themselves.

And yet police officials say consistently that 90% of all burglaries can be avoided. But we are not interested in prevention, we are going to show you the best ways to make sure you are the next statistic-how to make sure you get burglarized. Ready?

1. TREES AND SHRUBS-Make sure you have plenty of trees and shrubs near windows and doors. That gives the bad guys plenty of cover and make great hiding places.

2. SIGNAGE-Never put up any kind of signs like 'vicious guard dog', NRA stickers, security company signs-anything that warns the bad guys to stay away. It might scare them into burglarizing someone else.

3. GARAGE DOOR-My favorite! Especially when it's hot, leave the garage door open. It usually provides easy access to the house. We don't want any undue difficulties for the bad guys do we?

4. LOCK DOORS AND WINDOWS-Speed is an essential for the bad guys. A locked door or window just slows them. Not what we want is it?

5. WINDOW AND DOOR ALARMS-They just make noise and are so inconsiderate to the bad guys. These too may scare them away to go somewhere else.

6. DON'T KEEP CARS AND POSSESSIONS IN THE GARGE-Temptation is the mother of all burglars. MAKE IT AS EASY AS WE CAN.

7. THE WELCOME MAT-That's what I call it. Make your home an attractive target. Look at it from the outside and follow the tips above.
